Question #1

Leadership relates to a case where an individual or a team that works to influence others in performing given tasks. The act of leading involves motivation in presenting ideas that drive others into action. Followership covers the other end of leadership and encompasses those who are being led and influenced (Whitehead, Weiss & Tappen, 2004). Followers take the teaching of the leader as a guide to handle their given tasks.

Question #2

Becoming an effective follower is not only important to the work at hand but also to oneself. The art of being a follower creates a foundation for teamwork and a unity of purpose (Whitehead et al., 2004). An effective follower operates along similar core values exhibited by the leader, and hence it becomes easy to get things done. A good follower also can master not only what it entails to become a leader but also leadership traits.

My friend has leadership qualities, which I tend to think that they come about naturally. Sometime back last year, we had been given a group assignment where we both happened to be in the same group. We met for the first secession, but there emerged three subgroups, which made it hard to cooperate. My friend called the group together, citing the primary goal of the session and laid out a foundation for discussion and the group work was successful.

I prefer transformational leadership as I believe in motivation and molarity as a call to a collective good and influencing followers from a personalized standpoint. I also think that adaptive leadership theory would also work well but could be challenging for me. This is because I lack a strong aspect of mobilizing individuals, which is a necessity in this type of leadership.

The first goal is acquiring collaborative characteristics that are vital for an aspiring follower as it helps one to be good at teamwork, making it easy for a leader in offering guidance. The second goal is to grow in diligence, which is necessary for a follower to be at per with the leader to succeed at the task at hand (Whitehead et al., 2004). Lastly, we have loyalty and obedience as this facilitates unity of purpose, whereas a follower one has the drive to follow instructions to the latter.

An effective leader has to exhibit honesty as a way to build trust with the followers, which is a necessity in influencing and leading them. A leader must also be able to cultivate good relationships with the followers as it becomes easy for followers to be loyal and obedient when they relate well with the leader (Whitehead et al., 2004). An effective leader also needs to be appreciative and inspiring, which helps to motivate and instils confidence in the followers.

Question #7

The first step is to establish core skills focusing on development goals. The next step is to assess the experience gap that has to be bridged along with tactical skills and in line with the strategic responsibilities. The third step in the plan is determining the new relationship that needs to be built with key stakeholders. Next specific tasks have to be identified for delegation—lastly, critical indicators of performance to measure the level of success for the set teams.

Question #8

Two leaders that I know and respect for their success are Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Steve’s dedication and inspiring facilitated the innovativeness that transformed Apple into a successful venture. Gates have also been inspirational and assertive, mobilizing his team to come up with amazing products that transformed the world of computing.

I would first foster a good relationship and create collaborative interactions to guide the new nurses. I would also work to be appreciative build on their confidence where necessary. Taking an inspirational stance would be helpful to help the new nurses to deal with identified workplace challenges. Lastly, I would uphold honesty to build trust and give the new nurses a reason to follow my lead.
