Greatest Introduction to a Report – medicpapers

Each and every report you write should contain an introduction part. I know this could be a difficult task but it’s worth it. Writing an introduction can be a daunting job when it comes to writing a report which you are not familiar with. So before you begin writing, you need to ask yourself a few questions; what is the purpose of your report and who are your audience?

So in order to talk about the purpose of your report, you need to think about the context. Does it involve you gathering data from different sources and then presenting them in a formal setting? Will you be reviewing literature? Well, maybe you’re writing a personal reflective journal or a narrative style essay. Furthermore, you can also review a research that was conducted by you or others. So once you have settled on the type of essay you want to write, you can now come up with a great introduction. Below are different types of introduction to report writing plus the importance of each type.

1. Personalized Introduction

This is an introduction that appears mostly in personal essays. Maybe a report that explains what you have experienced or it could be the opinion you have on a particular topic. So this is where you include a personalized introduction. This kind of introduction mostly begins with a question, it could be a quote from a source, or just a reflection. It is in this type of introduction where personal interjections such as “I believe,” are more likely to be used. Well, you shouldn’t use this in other types of report introductions. The advantage of this is that it hooks the readers by drawing them into your personal life. Moreover, it allows them to see the importance of the topic in a real-world setting.

2. Technical Introduction

This is the kind of introduction that is best used when writing a technical report. Technical introductions usually includes background information on the specific topic, important facts, figures, and statistics. In this kind of introduction, quotations, personal interjections, and questions are not usually used. Therefore, this kind of introduction is meant to create a context for the reading audience before they get into the main technical report e.g a lab report, a business report, or a diagnostic report.

Technical introductions are so important because they explain to us why we are reading the report. These kind of introductions are used mostly in businesses where efficiency and speed of use are of utmost importance.

3. Scientific Research Introduction

Scientific research introductions are more the same with technical introductions because both of them are fact-based. Also, it’s made up of context which is important to the reader. Nevertheless, if your scientific report is meant to be submitted to an academic research, then you’re supposed to follow a specific template and provide the readers with scientific methods and research questions. And just like technical introductions, scientific introductions also lead readers into a scientific research report.

4. Literary Analysis Introductions

These are the kind of introductions used in academic literary essays. And just like technical introductions, these introductions also don’t use personal interjections or questions. What they do is they discuss an overall thesis.

5. Expository Introduction

For expository essays and general independent research any other type of report, such as a general independent research report, you can follow this format. Just what the name says, an expository essay exposes information for the readers. Again, it lets the reader know where the essay will be taking them through.

Also, just like technical and scientific research, avoid using personal interjections. Moreover, do not include facts, figures, or statistics. It doesn’t matter what type of report you’re going to write, always ensure that your introduction is as important as your final report. One thing about readers is that they need to get a hook in the first paragraph. Therefore, if you miss this hook, your readers won’t stick around for the rest of the report. So always ensure that you pick the right introduction type for your report. Also, wrap up your essay with a very nice conclusion.
