This is a English Critical Thinking class. This essay is based of the memoir by Jean-Dominique Bauby, The Diving Bell and The Butterfly.Essay requirements:*Use only sources provided below:-Bauby, J. Specifically pgs. 97-100 and 530-536 (metaphors, similes, analogy and personification.-Stevens, D. Making Sense: A Guide to Sound Reasoning and Critical Thinking. Eight Edition. Specifically Chapter 1 and 4, Appendices II and III.*Use only the sources provided above. I want you to apply your critical thinking. I want to see your inferences.*Avoid summarizing rather than analyzing and then interpreting. Do not focus on the author or his situation. The reader is familiar with the book. A couple of sentences at the most should be used to set up the context.This is a formal essay, so do not use I or you point of view. Use reader or another term that specifies who is analyzing and interpreting.*Procedure: Narrow down the focus on a particular type of metaphors, similes and analogies. They should relate. Categorize the types and how they reveal something about the author’s attitude toward people and circumstances, his perspective on life.*Summarizing: A couple of sentences, just set the mood and give back ground for your discussion.*Purpose and Thesis: Main goal is to gain some insight into the author’s perspective and imagination. Your unique analysis and interpretation of the elements mentioned above will provide the reader with a better appreciations of his creative intelligence.*Analysis supporting by quotes: Integrate your analysis of his points and points of view and include quotes. Use signal phrase, specific verbs, to introduce quotes. Signal phrases are in appendices II and III.*Conclusion: Your thesis will be a logical conclusion based on what you have analyzed and the inferences you have drawn as to the meaning of figurative elements, irony and symbols used by Bauby to convey his emotional and intellectual responses.
